THE TOP FIVE BIOPICS THAT NEED TO BE MADE

The recent success (4.5 million viewers) and interest in the latest biopic that was released about the 90’s female group TLC may very well start a new trend. In this day and age of the internet people are interested in behind the scenes as much if not more than what goes on stage with celebrities. The buzz in the last week has been about TLC and their rise and fall in terms of their tremendous success and unfortunate financial worries.
Personalities in the movie have reportedly been upset with their portrayal in the movie, but no one will ever be completely in agreement of how certain individuals view certain situations that are being told in a story. VH1 executives have reported that TLC did really well as a movie and they had projected so through other projects by the group like its documentary which resonated very well with audiences.
So, if any big time movie producers or television stations looking to create the same interest for a similar project I give you the top five choices for what I believe the public would want to see next. Of course, choosing the right scripts and actors should also play a strong part in making these movies come to life where the fans are invested in seeing their favorite stars real life story.
Before I get into the top five list I want to address some biopics that need to be remade.

MICHAEL JACKSON
index

VH1’s Man in The Mirror was atrocious in aesthetics and acting. It was horribly casted and should be done over. The Jacksons An American Dream is a great one though, but I believe Michael Jackson’s biopic of his childhood to his rise as the most talked about star on the planet in the 80’s has not been told well at all. Even the 90’s and 00’s drama could have been written and told differently. I believe the man deserves a better movie for being one of the pioneers of urban music that changed the whole music business. There was a reason why the internet almost crashed when news broke out of his passing. He was and is one of the most popular men in pop culture history.

The Dream Girls movie was loosely based on the original musical empire of the urban genre, but there needs to be a real movie about the men and women who changed urban music forever. From the tumultuous relationship of Berry Gordy and Dian Ross with The Supremes to the struggle between the artists and the label for creative freedom this story needs to be told correctly for historic purposes alone.

#5: JODECI
jodeci

The original Bad Boys of R & B. Before these men the genre was known for having well-dressed crooners or eccentric personalities, but being a thug was a not something record companies wanted out of their groups. This all changed when Puff Daddy (yes way back then when we called him that) wanted his artists to have a street edge to them which would give the fans of the music a certain feeling of being one with their stars.
This marketing plan was rogue at the time, but also created drama right out of the gate. Diddy also wanted his female artists to have that certain street appeal and Mary J. Blige was the perfect choice as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. Ki-Ci and Mary seemed like a dream couple for many, but it ended up being a soap opera nightmare. A supposed engagement that went awry on German national television creating an embarrassing moment for the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. The relationship was so heart pulling Ki-Ci ended up apologizing for it and everything else in this song and video years long after the fact.
Ki-Ci and Mary J. Blige were the more famous couple that sprang out of this group, but there is definitely drama with Dalvin as well in his relationship with the opposite sex too. Dalvin was once in a relationship with TLC’s T-Boz for 3 years which was not exactly the opposite of Ki-Ci and Mary’s relationship.
Devante wasn’t void of his crazy antics either as he supposedly held some people known to the public in future times as Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, Timbaland, and Tweet hostage as his very own monster factory of musical entities for his own desire.

Where to begin with these guys right here? They were indeed The Jacksons of the 80’s that were the Jacksons of the 70’s if you catch my drift. We saw the group as teenage heartthrobs who went on to evolve into single and group stars all at the same time.
You have Bobby Brown who can arguably can have a biopic miniseries all on his own merit, but then Bell Biv Devoe also comes into the picture with their hip hop style that told men everywhere “that girl is poison”. The breakup of the original group is a story unto itself with the addition of Johnny Gill and the late 90’s versions which did not do quite as well compared to the heights of its success in the 80’s. This has drama all over it and is an easy choice.

#3: WU-TANG CLAN

The whole backdrop of Shaolin history and where Wu-Tang Clan got their imagery from is a story in itself. Then you bring in a group of kids from the streets of New York with its 90’s grit and you got yourself a story. From the craziness of ODB to the high science of RZA this would be some nice viewing. The group’s domination and drama throughout the years is well documented and it should now be put to film.

The group who changed hip hop music forever. Some may say not for the better, but change nonetheless. From the fall out with Ice Cube and the other members to the behind the scenes antics that are made for movie material you can’t go wrong with this one. The untimely death of Easy E and the topic surrounding his death are great plot devices.

Yes, I said it although I knew the movie is supposed to start next year with a huge budget. It doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on this list at number one. I can’t stress it enough how much material a movie producer has to work with this individual. There could be different plotlines that can create a mini-series here from his incarceration as a seed in the 70’s and his rise to becoming one of the most talked about artists in the history of music.

So what are your choices for what should be biopics hitting either television screens or the big screen?
